Heard an interesting tidbit about Oak Ridge, TN today on the History Channel, show entitled "The Manhattan Project." During research to build the U.S. first atomic bomb, Oak Ridge grew to become Tennessee's fifth largest city. More impressive was that the electricity used in Oak Ridge during this time was 1/10 the total electrical output of the entire United States.

Had to be something going on there.
From what one of my science teachers told me last year parts of the first A-bomb were built there at a lab. Thats just what she told me anyways. Dont know if its true or not tho.

That is largely correct - Oak Ridge handled the Uranium & Plutonium.
I had the fortune to spend some time at the Oak Ridge labs the summer of my sophomore year in high school.
We had to wear the radiation detection badges. We put those things in gamma samples and everything. When they came back they all read "no radiation exposure detected." Yeahhhh riiiiight. lol
